Description:
The pre-1900 railroad sleeper car that comprises the oldest part of the Silver Coach was purchased in the 1930's after the end of Prohibition by Joh and Fred Bablitch, moved to its present site in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and converted into a bar.
In 1955, the late Charles "Pete" Redfield, who was the owner at the time, added a dining room and began surving Cantonese food. Pete ran it for 32 years before selling it to Jim Gitter.
Jim Gitter came to this area as an art major at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. He worked at local restaurants until he earned his degree in 1974. Jim purchased the Silver Coach in 1987. Through his years as owner, the interior and exterior of its railroad car appearance were restored.
